Since 2012, Mr. Pontius has served as the Co-Chair of the Tax Section of the Bar Association of Montgomery County Maryland. Mr. Pontius writes articles for the newsletter on recent tax developments. He leads meetings on tax topics and coordinates Continuing Legal Education (CLE) classes on technical tax topics. In 2013, Mr. Pontius organized a Montgomery County CLE with a three-person panel covering the tax consequences of buying and selling a business. In 2013 Mr. Pontius guest lectured on the topic of Collection Due Process Hearings for the tax practice and procedure litigation class at the Georgetown University Law Center. In 2013, Mr. Pontius was a co-panelist at a DC Bar New Tax Practitioner Committee meeting on the topic of Collection Due Process procedures and practice tips. In 2015 Mr. Pontius made a presentation on employment taxes at the Maryland State Bar Association (MSBA) Leadership Academy’s Pro Bono Small Business Boot Camp. In 2015 Mr. Pontius was a moderator of a panel covering essential tax issues for non-tax lawyers at the Montgomery County Bar’s Annual Meeting. In 2016 Mr. Pontius discussed the fundamentals of international tax as the guest speaker on for the Immigration Section of the Montgomery County Bar.
